Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park is a popular wildlife safari destination in Tanzania. Visitors can see various animals such as lions, cheetahs, leopards, hippopotamuses, elephants and more. Safari tours vary from independent experiences with a tour guide, sleeping in fly-tents, and driving your own vehicle, to more luxurious tours with accommodations in more affluent lodges and tented camps.

Visitors often hire tour guides who are familiar with the environment to assist them in navigation, as well as 4-wheel drive vehicles designed specifically for wildlife viewing. When interested, the best time to visit Tanzania for a trip to the safari is early in the year, throughout January and February. Otherwise, the weather is comfortable between June and August, at the end of the rainy season.

Historical Preservations

Many people travel to the African continent to better understand our history. Decades of culture have been preserved in areas virtually untouched by modern technology. In Tumi, Ethiopia, for instance, you will find remnants of ancient cultures remaining today. Ceremonies and traditions have been upheld without much influence from a rapidly changing world. In Mali, West Africa, you can trek through the Dogon Country and see women still making their daily walk to the well to collect water.

Oftentimes, though, you may have to get off the beaten path in order to immerse yourself into the less commercialized experiences and understandings of the ancient cultures in Africa, and many natives will be happy to show them to you.

Coastlines

African countries offer many world famous beaches. However, beaches may not be the original attraction that draws your attention when thinking of an African vacation; they may serve instead as a serene place to relax after one of Africa’s many engaging ventures.

Still, Africa’s coastlines offer more than a place to unwind. Beaches in Zanzibar, Tanzania, for instance, offer access to unique wildlife, a rich culture, a variety of foods and adventures along their coast –  and this theme carries throughout many of Africa’s destination beaches.

Mount Uphill

Mount Uphill

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is a dream objective for many people. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa and a popular destination for many visitors to Tanzania. Despite its popularity, it offers a timeless experience for each visitor. You can also venture rarer feats on less traveled mountains in Africa such as Mount Kenya.

Gift Markets

Africa is also home to a variety of talent that is perhaps most prominently showcased in the markets. African handicrafts can be found in local shops that sell everything from ornate jewelry to carved soaprock or Masai blankets. Negotiating is a fun part of the experience so do not hesitate to negotiate a price.
